Eligibility requirements for admission
Those who have passed the H.S.C. or an equivalent examination are eligible for admission into the first year of the three year Degree B.A., B.Sc., or B.Com. course.
Applicants for M.A. degree course in Economics should have passed B.A. degree examination in Economics or B.Sc. Mathematics or B.Sc. Statistics or B.Com.
Any graduate of any recognised university is eligible for M.A. course in Philosophy.
Applicants for M.A. course in Sanskrit should have passed B.A. degree examination with Sanskrit under part III or the Siromani examination or any degree with Sanskrit under part I or any graduate who passes an aptitude test conducted by the Department.
Applicants for M.Sc. course in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Botany should have passed B.sc. with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany or Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology Major respectively.
Rules for admission and withdrawal
- Applicants for M.Phil. and Ph.D. programme may contact the Head of the Department concerned.
- Application for M.A. and M.Sc. course should be made in the prescribed form (in duplicate) available at the college office on payment of Rs.50/- in cash or by D.D. drawn in favour of the Principal. All requests from mofussil candidates must be accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope 10"x4".
- Candidates for admission to the first year University course should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination, conducted by the T.N.H.S.E.B. or any other examination by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto. Every candidate for admission should present his transfer certificate from the School or College which he last attended. Applications for admission from private candidates will be entertained only if they are accompanied by eligibility certificate from the University of Madras.
- Applicants for the Degree Courses must have completed 16 years and 6 months on 15th July of the year of admission.
- Candidates who are admitted on the basis of qualifications of other Universities or bodies should fully satisfy all the prescribed conditions, and such admissions are subject to recognition and confirmation by the University of Madras. The provisional admission is at the risk of the candidates.
- Students who are found to have obtained admission by false representations will be summarily dismissed with forfeiture of all fees paid.
- No student will be enrolled or permitted to attend classes until the fees due from him have been paid. This will be strictly adhered to.
- The student must keep the fee receipts carefully and must produce them whenever required.
- If a student who has duly paid his fees leaves the College, he will be furnished with a transfer certificate on application, provided that he applies not later than the fifth working day of the term succeeding that in which he left the college.
- Students who discontinue their courses of study must apply for T.C. within 5 working days from the date of reopening of the college for the year, failing which they will be required to pay one year's fees.
- Collection of the fees due to the College will not be suspended just because the award of scholarship is expected from some agency and late payment of fees will necessarily incur a fine.
- All enquires by the students to the office will be attended to during lunch time and between 2.00 and 3.30 p.m. Students are advised not to come to the office for enquires during class hours.

Rules for payment of fees
Fees should be paid into the Punjab National Bank during its working hours through fee-remitting chalan properly filled with details such as NAME, CLASS, GROUP, DEPT.NO, YEAR etc. Fee Concession awardees under 92 MER should take an endorsement on the chalan from the College office before the remittance.
- Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstance.
- A student who has joined the College but leaves in the middle of the term will forfeit the fees already paid.
- Any student who is absent without the written permission of the Principal for the first five working days after admission will forfeit his seat.
- The fee for each year is payable not later than the fifth working day of the year. If the fee is not so paid, it will have to be so paid with a fine of one rupee for every working day of default.
- If a student fails to pay the term fee within 30 days of the prescribed date, his name will be struck off the rolls. If readmitted, he should pay, in addition to fees and fines due, a readmission fee of Rs.5/-.
- Holders of scholarship are also bound by the foregoing regulations. Scholarship holders are advised to open a Bank Account.
- Absence from the College, whether with leave or without leave, forms no ground for exemption from the operation of the above rules.
General code of conduct
- The students of the College are to conduct themselves on and off the College premises in such a way as to maintain the good name of the College as well as their own.
- Every student shall salute the members of the teaching staff on the occasion of his first meeting them for the day within the College.
- When a staff member enters the classroom, students will rise and remain standing till he takes his seat.
- No student will leave his classroom without permission or until the teacher instructs the class to disperse.
- Studetns are advised to cultivate the habit of reading notices posted on the College notice boards. Ignorence of any notice thus posted will not be accepted as an excuse for failing to comply with it.
- Smoking in the precints of the College or Hostel, spitting, throwing waste paper or rubbish except in the receptacles provided for the purpose, are prohibited.
- While moving froom one class room to another or while dispersing from a class, students should avoid making noise.
- Loitering or collecting in groups anywhere within the College campus is strictly prohibited.
- When students are free they are expected to got to the Library Reading Room or Students' Centre and engage themselves silently in study or other useful pursuits.
- The students should park their vehicles only in the places earmarked for them. The College will not take any responsibility for the loss of any vehicle.
- No student shall enter the College Office, unless expressly permitted.
- Studetns are forbidden from joining any organisation or conducting any meeting in the College or collecting money for any purpose without the express permission of the Principal.
- Under the Tamil Nadu Government Educational Rules, the Principal is empowered to inflict fine, withhold attendance certificate, suspend and expel a student, if considered necessary.
- Ragging is strictly prohibited and is punishable by imprisonment.
- The students should be decently dressed. T-shirts and gaudy dresses are prohibited.
- Students are not supposed to use cellphone, pager etc. in the College premises.
- The students are responsible for the equipments / facilities provided in the class room. In case of damage to the property a collective fine will be levied for the entire class.
- The day scholars should not enter the Hostel area for any purpose.
Attendance and Leave of Absence
- No student shall absent himself from the college without leave. Application for leave must be made beforehand to the Head of the Department, in the prescribed format. When the absence is due to unforeseen causes an application for leave must be submitted as soon as possible and in no case, later than the first day of his return to the College. Leave applied for in time will ordinarily be granted when proper reasons are given, but in case of sickness exceeding three days, the Principal may insist on the production of a medical certificate.
- Application for leave from a day scholar should be counter signed by the parent or guardian and that from the Hostel student by the Warden.
- If a student absents himself for five working days without leave, his name will be struck off the rolls, unless he can show that his failure to obtain leave was unavoidable.
- The College works from 8.30 a.m. to 1.45 p.m. with 15 minutes break between 11.30 a.m. and 11.45 a.m. Attendance will be taken during every hour of the day. Students coming late are liable to be fined.
- An application for leave for the afternoon session must always be submitted in person before availing oneself of the leave. A student who absents himself from the class during an hour of the day without leave will be marked absent for half a day and is also liable to be fined.
- A student who absents himself without leave partially or completely during both the forenoon and afternoon sessions on a day will be marked absent for the whole day and is also liable to be fined.
- The annual certificate of attendance and progress required will in no case be granted unless (1) the Principal is satisfied that the student's progress and conduct have been satisfactory, and (2) the student has attended not less than three-fourths of the number of working days/hours (75%) in the academic year.
- A minimum of 75% attendance is insisted for Language, English and extension services.
