Compulsory Extension Service

All the first year undergraduate students have to undergo Compulsory External service, for which 75% attendance is compulsory. All the students must enroll themselves in any one of these:

  1. NCC
  2. NSS
  3. Youth Red Cross Society
  4. Rotaract Club
  5. Sports

National Cadet Corps

The National Cadet Corps (N.C.C.) is an organisation sponsored with a view to inculcate a spirit of service and sacrifice in the minds of the young men of our country. The Government provides free military training to these selected young men who satisfy certain conditions regarding physical build, strength and stamina. The specific feature of this training is that it is given free without any service liability.

The aims of the N.C.C. training in the College are:

  1. To develop character, comradeship, the ideal of service and the capacity for leadership in young men.
  2. To provide service training to young men so as to stimulate interest in the defence of the country.
  3. To build up a reserve of potential officers so as to enable the armed forces to expand rapidly in a national emergency.

The perfect drilling and traning imparted to the trainees make them acquire a fine personality and sound health.

All cadets thus enrolled will be equipped fully with uniform free of cost. All cadets enrolled will be provided with allowance for refreshment and washing. Cadets are to be extremely careful about the maintenance of the Government clothing supplied to them. The cadets should bear the cost of damaged articles.

Eligible cadets will be trained to appear for 'B' and 'C' certificate examinations.

Smart and capable cadets are entitled to selection for Adventure Courses, All India Advance Leadership Camps, Summer Training Camps of the States, Training in the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and be included in the Republic Day Parade contingent, New Delhi.

National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a program organised by the Ministry of Education and Youth Service to afford opportunities and training in service to the community and to the nation, for students with an aptitude.

Each student attending the NSS will be required to put in 120 hours of service activity each academic year and he will be expected to maintain a diary showing details of his participation duly countersigned by the Programme Organizer.

A variety of service programmes like Adult Education, Community Welfare, Vegetable Gardening etc., are available under the NSS pogramme. Certificates will be issued to deserving members on the completion of their two-year term. Members are expected to participate in all the training programmes and work camps organised from time to time.

Report of Activities

The NSS V Unit of RKM Vivekananda Evening College was inaugurated on 21.12.2010 for the academic year 2010-11. Mr. Raja Hussein (N.S.S. Coordinator, University of Madras) was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Swami atmaghanananda, the Secretary of the college and Dr.S.Swaminathan, the Principal, were present.

Blood donation camp was held on 27.01.2010 and 31.01.2011. More than 700 students from Evening College donated blood.

Two rallies one on Obesity on 26.2.11 and other on Eesha on 1.1.2011 were organized. More than a hundred students participated from NSS Unit.

42 Volunteers of the Unit contributed immensely by exhilarating their disciplined service in the National Youth Day Programme which was held at RKM students Home on 11.01.2011 and 12.01.2011.

46 Volunteers from the Unit accompanied the police of in Mylapore station controlling the crowed at Theppakulam Festival that was held at Mylapore Tank on 19.01.2011 to 21.01.2011.

50 students of the Unit participated in a State Govt Programme in which distinguished police officers were honored for their service which was held at Nehru Stadium on 21.01.2010.

13 N.S.S Volunteers participated in the organization of the I.C.C.Cricket World Cup at Chepauk Stadium in March 2011.

An Eye Donation Rally was organised by Rajan Eye Care on Sunday 28th,August-2011,at Chennai Light House, in which more than 250 students of our college NSS V Unit Participated. Mr.Jeyakumar was the Speaker of Legislative Assembly, commenced the Rally by waving flag.

Youth Red Cross Society

Youth Red Cross (YRC) movement is organised to create an awareness among the youth to have first hand knowledge about their health, environment and community health welfare.
