It occupies a place of pre-eminence among the educational activities of the Mission in India.   It was formally opened on 21th June  1946. The Evening College was started in 1974.

Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College aims at giving students a “man making and character building education”.

Education should be aimed at developing a man’s life at various levels -physical, mental, intellectual, moral and spiritual. The all round development should take place simultaneously and harmoniously keeping view the summum bonum  of life which is to realize the oneness of all existence. The College offers special programmes like Religion Classes and Swami Vivekananda Study circle Classes which aim at giving the students an insight into spirituality that is to develop self-confidence and faith in themselves and a concern for fellow human beings.

All these are amply borne out by the fact that the college has been Re-accredited with a “A” grade by NAAC. The College has become autonomous from the academic year 2004 -05.
