Department of Social Work had its inception on 2nd August 2010.

At present, the department offers two specializations, namely, Human Resource Management and Community Development.

The Department offers M.S.W course.

The department has computers for the use of staff and students with internet facility. It also has an excellent library with many collections in this area. The Department Library has more than 240 books for the benefit of the students.

Objectives of the department

The objectives of the department are:

  • To instruct the Social Work students in the relevant subjects of present day social work
  • To utilize all teaching methods to equip the students
  • To prepare candidates for a career in social work through a professional training programme.
  • To produce a disciplined youth community
  • To work for the community through outreach programmes

Career Opportunities

Generally, social workers can be employed in every aspects of the community. Some of them are: Addictions Treatment, Adoptions & Foster Care, Advocacy , Child Abuse, Child Welfare, Chronic Pain , Community Mental health , Consulting , Criminal Justice , Crisis Intervention, Developmental Disabilities, Disaster Relief, Domestic Violence, Eating Disorders, Employee Assistance, Family Planning, Family Preservation Services, Genetics, Gerontology Services, HIV/AIDS, Homeless Family Assistance, Hospice and Palliative care, Hospital / Medical Social Work, Housing Assistance, In-Home Services, Mental Health Therapy, Military Social Work, Parent Education, Political Development, Private Practice, Public Welfare, Rural Social Work, School Social Work, Veterans’ Services.

1.Opportunities in Human Resource Management:

One who is specialized in Human resource management will be employed in Public and Private sectors, multinational companies and even in nationalized banks in the following cadres: Training Officer, Public Relations Officer, Labour Welfare Officer, Assistant Personnel Officer, Personnel Officer, Officer in CSR related activities, HR Executive, Assistant Manager, Manager, Senior Manager, Assistant General Manager, Deputy General Manager, General Manager, Vice- President and President.

2.Opportunities in Community Development:

The students with community development specialization are having scope in voluntary organizations, charitable trusts, funding agencies like UNICEF, WHO, public and private sectors, rural and urban entrepreneurs and even they can start their own organizations. Few positions are: Community Organizer, Community Development Officer, District Co-ordinator, Programme officer, Liasoning officer, Field officers, Fund raising officer, Event officer, Manager, Public relation officer, Officer in CSR related activities, Block Development Officer, Extension Educator, Project Officer, Project Director, Monitoring Officer, and Evaluator.

3.Opportunities in Teaching and Research:

They can also have their career in teaching and research after completing their M.Phil / Ph. D / National Eligibility Test (NET) / State Eligibility Test (SET) as Lecturer, Reader, Professor, Social scientist, Research officer, Health education officer, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowship (SRF), Investigator, Project fellow and School social worker.
