Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith Boys’ Hostel under Gurukulam Tradition

The Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith Boys’ Hostel under Gurukulam Tradition of Belur Math is run under the direct supervision and guidance of the Monastic Warden of the Ramakrishna Order. The inmates get the spiritual ambience in direct contact with the Monks of the Ramakrishna Monastery who in turn impart the man-making and character-building education as envisaged by Swami Vivekananda. Prayers are held regularly in the Early Mornings and Evenings. The Jayanti’s of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Swami Ramakrishnananda are celebrated solemnly with speeches by the Monks, Principal and other eminent speakers. Festivals relating to various deities are duly celebrated.

This Institution endeavors to actualize the educational vision of Swami Vivekananda expressed in his own words – ” What we want are Western science coupled with Vedanta, Brahmacharya as the guiding motto, and also Shraddhâ and faith in one’s own self .”

Religious Instructions are imparted to all the inmates of this Gurukulam in its Universal Form as propounded by Sri Ramakrishna and practically illustrated by his own life and teachings.

Chanting from the Scriptures involving Slokas bearing Universal Teachings is a regular event for inmates which helps them to imbibe a rich value-based moral education in their practical life.

Early Morning Prayer with the Vedic chanting and devotional songs is followed by a brief meditation and readings from the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Literature as the “Message for the Day”.

It has a library of its own and subscribes to a number of journals, magazines, and newspapers in different languages. Facilities like gymnasium and indoor games are also available.
